10 Kokeshi Doll Nick-Nacks + Your Very Own Memento!

One of Japan’s traditional crafts is the kokeshi-doll. With time, the faces and shapes have evolved and have branched into 11 different schools of art. Each school has its unique characteristics. It may also be fun just to find your own favorite style. There’s actually a mini-boom of these kokeshi-dolls. There are too many products that we can’t introduce them all, but here are a select few. Here we go…

3. The “Kaishi or Futokoro-gami” Paper

It is a small piece of Japanese paper that can be carried around. It was traditionally used to serve snacks on it, use it as a handkerchief, etc. It can be used in a formal settings also, for Japanese cuisine or in Japanese tea ceremonies.

You can put small notes or some otoshidama (money given to children at New Years) in it. If you got your otoshidama in this, wouldn’t it make you happy even if it was a small amount!? lol

The Bento lunch box is extremely popular even overseas. There are samurai and folktale characters like Momotaro and Kintaro designed as kokeshi and it’s really cute. The hat on their heads can be used as a bowl to serve the miso-soup from your thermos.
