Anime Masterpiece of Japan: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4, “Diamond Is Unbreakable”

It has been more than 10 years since the battle that started in the 19th century between Joestar family and vampire Dio finally came to an end.

The stage is set in a city called Moriocho, located in the northeastern part of Japan.

The story begins with the main character Josuke Higashikata, a high school student who lives there.

Actually he is an illegitimate child of the third generation head of Joestar family, Joseph Joestar, and he has special ability to manipulate an alter-ego “Stand”, which is a unique ability shared by members of the Joestar family.

Jotaro Kujo, who is a nephew of Josuke Higashikata and grandson of Joseph Joestar came to Moriocho to tell Josuke that he is an illegitimate son of Joseph and that Joseph is old and he would like to bequeath his properties while he is alive.

The story starts churning by the meeting of Josuke and Jotaro, and they become targets of attacks by others who have similar Stand abilities.

They will find that the assault has a hidden meaning and an enormous evil is lurking in Moriocho.

The original story was first published in 1989 and became the basis for the anime, and manga “Jojo no Kimyo na Boken (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)” is still continuing in 2017.

This piece is the animated version of Part 4 of the story.

Parts 1 through 3 have been already adapted for animation, and this piece positions itself as a sequel to those works.

The most appealing point of this story is perhaps the special ability called Stand.

They stand by the people with this ability like ghosts and each of them have special abilities that defy laws of physics.

The main character Josuke has a Stand called Crazy Diamond, and this Stand is a humanoid with abilities to repair anything he touches.

Jotaro Kujo’s Stand is called Star Platinum, and it is also a humanoid that has huge destructive power and precise movements, and it can even stop the time for a few seconds.

Many unique characters appear in the story in addition to them.

They have not only distinctive appearances but also distinguishing personalities.

Unique characters are found not just in “good guys” of leading characters but also among enemy characters. And conversations and actions of these individualistic characters capture readers’ attention.

In addition, the expression and content of Stand abilities used by these unique characters are very attractive, too.

Many unusual and interesting special powers appear in the story, including one ability to become a part of electricity and gain the speed and power of electricity or another ability to possess a tower of power transmission line and trap enemies within the tower.

By the way the ability called Stand has appeared already in previous parts of the story.

Thus you may feel somewhat confused if this is the first time for you to watch the Jojo series.

If you find it necessary, please first watch the previous series of this anime, which is “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders”.

This anime I am introducing this time does not stop at being a part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, which is a tremendously long story.

In this anime, enemies keep changing while the story shifts gears repeatedly.

With such densely packed content, Part 4 outshines other parts of the story and this piece has become the most popular part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

This anime has 39 episodes in total and it was aired from April to December 2016 in Japan.

During the anime broadcast, adaptation of this series “Diamondo wa Kudakenai (Diamond is Unbreakable)” for a live-action film was decided and it is scheduled for release in 2017.

This series has completed both in original manga and animation and we are looking forward to the arrival of the live-action movie.

Incidentally the original manga of “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” is still in progress today and the story is currently in Part 8.
