The Evangelion Bullet Train is Open for Business
The West Japan Railway Company’s Neon Genesis Evangelion bullet train became operational on 11/7/2015, celebrating the anime’s 20th anniversary since first airing on TV. It safely left Hakata Station as scheduled, and so far has only confirmed one round-trip per day between Shin-Osaka and Hakata, which will be running until March 2017.
As you can see from the exterior, the design of the train was inspired by the main character, Shinji Ikari’s aircraft aka EVA-01 TEST TYPE, which suits the smooth lines and vivid coloring of the bullet train. The first car even has a real-life sized cockpit, where passengers can enjoy a game against the enemy characters shown on the monitor.
Whether you are a fan of the anime or not, you won’t want to miss catching a ride on this bad boy at least once while it is running.
